Rules & Forms
What is a LARP?
Interactive plays, jazz, live television shows, and improvisational art (usually called "improv") are mediums that have existed in one form another throughout history. Improv is spontaneity, reaction…losing yourself in art. To succeed at improv you must quiet your conscious mind and simply react to what is happening around you.
Imagine an improv play that takes place in a world of your own design, whether it is on Mars or Andromeda or a world beyond the fringes of the universe. You, as an improv actor, will play a role in that world, as a blacksmith, an elven assassin, an alien starship captain, any variety of character your imagination can create; you have complete control over whom you decide to represent. Here is the twist - in this play, there is no audience. There are only actors. The plot of the play is solely what you make it out to be, a tapestry sewn from your interactions with the other actors and your reactions to events.
You meet with, work with, and at times fight with the other characters created within this world, and may find yourself deciding whom you find yourself aligned with, and in what way…making both enemies and common-goal companions. No one truly knows what will happen until the interaction between characters is played out. Moreover, who controls that interaction? In a word... you.
A LARP (“Live Action Role-Play”, usually used like a noun) is an interactive improvisational play, in a story setting initially designed by the Board of Directors. This story and setting then develops, with many fascinating twists and turns, through the cooperative efforts of both the Players and the Directors. The rules of a LARP are the laws that govern this world and include the logistics for character creation, advancement of character skills and abilities, and character interactions. These rules define the Out of Game (OOG) mechanics that underlie the game world. The "on stage" rulers of the land provide the laws and rules that your character must learn. This In Game (IG) information is gained through game play as your character and by reading the newsletters.
The other links on this site will lead you to more information about one
of these story tale lands: the Realms of End of Seasons, a dark fantasy setting
set on the world of Ptalmanar. Will you join those on the side of Light, attempting
to stem the tide of the shadow? Or will you join the forces of Darkness that
work to undermine the glory of the Thrones? Whatever your choice, we hope
that you will find the inspiration and wherewithal to lose yourself in our
world in the coming pages. So sharpen your swords, prepare your spells, and
make peace with your Gods…the world of End of Seasons awaits!
New Player?
We've written a new player guide to (hopefully) answer some of your questions!
